Answer / Solution

What are the steps to upgrade to the ITC 2009?

Overview

This article presents step-by-step the best practices for upgrading from the ITC v2007 (or ITC v2009 beta) to the ITC 2009 on or after June 15, 2009.

Some Preliminary Concepts

  • The ITC 2007, ITC 2009 beta and ITC 2009 are three (3) separate installable products.  All three can be installed simultaneously on one computer.
  • Your user settings can be saved (backed up) to the platform in ITC 2007 (or ITC 2009 beta) and then Loaded from the Platform into the ITC 2009.
  • Your user settings can also be saved to a file on your computer as a backup.
  • User settings cannot go from ITC 2009 back down to ITC 2007.  If you have been using ITC 2009 beta, save your user settings to the platform from that product to move to the ITC 2009.
  • To install the ITC v2009, you must have Windows Administrator rights on your computer.

Before you Upgrade

  • Make sure your computer is healthy.
    • Run Windows Update to get the latest updates from Microsoft
  • Ensure you have the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 from Microsoft on your computer.
    • This can be installed from the following link
    • When you install the ITC 2009 and .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 is not present on your computer, it will automatically be installed during the ITC 2009 installation but that will take extra time.
    • If you encounter difficulty installing .Net Framework 3.5 SP1, turn off the Windows Firewall and any Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware Software you may have on your computer.  When all installations are complete, you can turn these back on at normal settings.
  • Save ITC 2007 (or ITC 2009 beta) User Settings to a File.
    • Log in to the ITC 2007 (ITC 2009 beta)
    • Settings --> User Settings --> Save to File
    • Select a suitable location on your computer for the file

  • Save ITC 2007 (ITC 2009 beta) User Settings to Platform.
    • Log in to the ITC 2007 (ITC 2009 beta)
    • Settings --> User Settings --> Save to Platform.

  • Install the ITC 2009
    • Login to the IMC with your login and password.
    • Click the Software Tab.
    • Scroll down to ITC 2009 and click Install.
  • Load ITC User settings to ITC 2009
    • Log in to the ITC 2009
    • Settings --> User Settings --> Load from Platform.

  • ITC 2009 Installation Confirmation
    • Take time to familiarize yourself with the ITC 2009
    • Confirm all is working to expectations
  • Now you are ready to uninstall the ITC 2007
    • No rush, so ensure you have tried everything to confirm proper operation in v2009 first
    • The performance of your computer will be improved by removing ITC 2007 components as specified
  • Remove ITC 2007
    • Start --> Control Panel -->
      • Add/Remove Programs (if XP)
      • Programs and Features (if Vista)
    • Choose InfraWare Transcription Client 2007
    • Follow instructions to uninstall.
  • Remove SQL Express InfraWare Instance
    • Start --> Control Panel -->
      • Add/Remove Programs (XP)
      • Programs and Features (Vista)
    • Choose Microsoft SQL Server 2005

  • Click InfraWare Database Engine.
  • Click Next.

  • Follow instructions to uninstall InfraWare Database Engine.

Getting Future Updates

The ITC 2009 will receive automatic updates in the same way that the ITC 2007 always has.  When an update is available, it will be downloaded automatically and the user will be prompted to restart to use it.

The ITC 2009 beta is not recommended for daily production now that the ITC 2009 is fully released.  From time to time, InfraWare will update the beta so new version can be tested by participating beta test users before placing them into mainstream production.  That is why the ITC 2009 beta product will continue on an ongoing basis.
