What is the difference between Quick Type and Quick Text?

Overview

Quick Type is one of the word expander options built-in to the InfraWare Transcription Client (ITC). The differentiation is that with Quick Text you use F3 to expand, whereas just typing the characters will expand automatically with Quick Type when you press the spacebar/return/punctuation.

Solution

• Quick Type (KB186) is used for expanding words, or short phrases.

  • Formatting is not included.
  • There is a limit to the amount of characters that can be entered at one time.  This is intended for short entries. (Example:  aaa = abdominal aortic aneurysm or egd = esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
  • Entries in Quick Type will automatically expand the "With" entry when the text set as "Replace" is typed in the ITC Editor. 

• Quick Text (KB185) allows you to insert commonly used transcription phrases or sections of text. 
  
  • Formatting is included. 
  • There is no character limit.  This feature is normally used for anything that includes formatting, a block of text such as a paragraph or multiple paragraphs, etc..  For example, you might use this for a Physical Exam section with headings/subheadings, whereas with Quick Type it is simply letters to words (aaa = abdominal aortic aneurysm or egd = esophagogastroduodenoscopy).
  • Entries in Quick Text do not expand automatically.  When the shortcut name is typed and then F3 is pressed the entry will expand in the ITC Editor.

• Both options will save you time in typing text.
