Saturday was a great day.  I got to do my favorite thing and help others at the same time.  My hobby is general aviation, and I fly a Beechcraft Bonanza V35A for both business and pleasure.  The Boy Scouts have an nice partnership with the Experimental Aircraft Assn (EAA) called Young Eagles.  It allows scouts to get exposed to the pleasure of flight.  Pilots donate their time and their aircraft to give the young men rides and teach them about aviation and the associated safety issues.  My EAA group had about 20 scouts Saturday morning.  They got a tour of our airport control tower, learned how to perform a pre-flight aircraft inspection and finally took a 15-20 minute flight around the city.  This was my first Young Eagles event.  My daughter and I spent the morning at the airport and took 5 scouts on their first flights.  I let several of them handle the controls, and they each had a great time.  Several of my friends (other local EAA members) provided other flights and ground instruction.  A great day...
